$4,190 CAD + 5% GST per person (approximately $3000 USD) per person

Winter Tours: January through March

Our winter tours are designed to take advantage of Alberta's short winter days.

We generally spend the day in the field, adapting our schedule to owl activity, weather and changing light.

Winter can provide some spectacular photographic conditions, including fresh snow, falling snow, frost, soft light and the opportunity to photograph Great Grey Owls against classic Canadian winter landscapes.

Our goal is to photograph much more than perched owls. When conditions and behaviour allow, we'll work on flight photography, hunting sequences, environmental portraits and behavioural images.

Spring Tours: April and May

As the days become significantly longer in April and May, these tours transition to a split-day photography schedule.

Rather than spending the middle of the day in the field when the light is typically at its harshest, we concentrate our photography around the best light and periods of owl activity.

We'll photograph for approximately four hours beginning around sunrise, return for a midday break, and head back into the field for approximately the final four hours before sunset.

This gives us up to eight hours of photography each day while concentrating our field time around the best light.

The midday break provides time to rest, recharge batteries, download images, have a meal and prepare for the evening session.

Spring also provides a very different photographic experience from winter, with longer daylight hours, changing landscapes and increased wildlife activity.

Small Groups. Maximum Opportunity.

Every tour is limited to three photographers.

Keeping the group this small allows us to move efficiently, minimize our impact on the owls and provide everyone with excellent shooting positions.

It also allows for individual photography instruction throughout the tour.

We'll work on camera setup, autofocus and tracking, exposure, composition, flight photography and anticipating owl behaviour.

More Than Great Grey Owls

Great Grey Owls are our primary focus, but we never know what Alberta will provide.

Depending on the time of year and current wildlife activity, we may have opportunities to photograph additional owl species and other wildlife.

We never bait or stage wildlife for photographs.

Ethical Wildlife Photography

Wildlife always comes first.

No baiting. No flushing. No harassment.

We photograph owls behaving naturally and adjust our distance and approach based on the behaviour of each individual bird.

Many of the locations used during these tours have been developed through years of scouting and fieldwork, and protecting these locations is extremely important.

Accommodation Included

Your tour includes four nights accommodation in a private room single occupancy.

You'll arrive the day before our first photography day and depart the morning following the final day.

Everyone stays at the same hotel, allowing us to leave together each day and eliminating the logistics of multiple pickup
